Volunteer
OYHA/Orono Westonka Warriors offers two volunteer pathways.
Rostered Volunteers serve in athlete-facing roles and must complete USA Hockey registration and eligibility requirements.
General Volunteers fulfill family volunteer requirements by signing up for opportunities through the Crossbar Volunteer Portal and do not require additional USA Hockey credentials.
__________
Rostered Volunteers
Volunteers who come into contact with athletes are required by USA Hockey to complete specific eligibility requirements before beginning their volunteer role.
Depending on the position, these requirements may need to be completed before the season starts. Roles requiring these steps include Board Members, Coaches, Team Managers, Level Representatives and Locker Room Monitors.
Annual Requirements
1. Register with USA Hockey
2. Register on OYHA's Crossbar site
3. Complete SafeSport Training
Biennial Requirement (every two years)
1. Complete a Background Check
Volunteer hours will not be credited to individuals who have not completed the required eligibility steps and are therefore ineligible to volunteer.
Note: coaches are subject to additional requirements found here:
Locker Room Monitors (Moms) - Warriors Only
Warrior Moms (10U, 12U, and 15U Travel Teams)
USA Hockey requires a female adult to be present in the locker room whenever female athletes are present. As a result, all Warrior moms are required to register as Rostered Volunteers and complete the eligibility requirements outlined above, including USA Hockey and Crossbar registration, SafeSport training, and background screening.
Each family will be assigned locker room mom responsibilities by the team manager. Depending on roster size, families should expect to cover approximately 1–2 weeks of locker room duty during the season.
Please note that locker room mom duties are a team requirement and are not eligible for volunteer (Dibs) credit. All eligibility requirements should be completed prior to the start of the 2026–27 season.
__________
General Volunteers
To keep association dues from increasing yearly, and more equally distribute the workload across the entire membership, we are again utilizing the OYHA Volunteer Program for the 2026-27 season.
The goal of the program is not to raise funds but to help the organization accomplish necessary jobs without having to pay outside vendors, and burnout our existing volunteer base. The volunteer program is simply a way to track volunteer time and distribute it more equally amongst the entire organization.
Numbers
- 7 hours per player
- 14 hours max per family
- $100/hour buyout (at registration only)
New to Hockey
Mite/8U players who are new to hockey are exempt from volunteer hours their first year.
__________
Volunteer opportunities are added to the Crossbar Volunteer Portal throughout the season, so be sure to check back often.
If you don't immediately see opportunities that fit your schedule, don't worry—additional shifts will be posted as game schedules, tournaments, and other events are finalized. In particular, Orono will host a District Tournament in March, which typically requires approximately 100 volunteer hours to support. There will be plenty of opportunities for families to fulfill their volunteer requirement throughout the season.
IMPORTANT
Any outstanding balances for unfulfilled volunteer hours (DIBS) or unpaid registration fees from the 2026-27 season will be added to your account after you register and charged to your card on file. If you have an outstanding balance that you believe is in error or would like to establish a payment plan please contact treasurer@oronohockey.org.
If you are short volunteer hours at the completion of the 2026-27 season your card on file will be charged April 1, 2027 at the rate of $125/hour for any hours that you did not fulfill or buy-out at the beginning of the season. You will be unable to register your player for the 2027-28 season without paying all outstanding balances.
